Women's team captures fourth straight title
HAMPTON, Va. - GW swimming & diving is on top of the Atlantic 10 Conference once again.
The George Washington University men's and women's swimming & diving teams have captured their fourth consecutive double Atlantic 10 title, becoming the first school ever to do so. The men's team has now won the last five A-10 Championships, and eight of the last nine conference titles, while the women's team has won each of the last four A-10 Championships, and five of the last six conference titles.
The Revolutionaries' men's team finished the championship meet with 883.5 points, 336 points clear of St. Bonaventure in second place. GW's women's team closed with 598.5 points, just 27.5 points ahead of Richmond in a fight to the finish.
Head Coach Chico Rego was named the A-10 Men's Coach of the Year after leading the Revolutionaries back to the promised land in his first year coaching at 22 & G. Head diving coach Christopher Lane helped the Revolutionaries to his seventh and eighth conference championships as a member of the staff, while assistant coach Kyrylo Shvets earned his third and fourth championships on staff, and first-year assistant coach Gabi Trainor earned her first two A-10 titles.
Connor Rodgers was named the A-10 Men's Most Outstanding Performer for the second year in a row after a record-setting meet. Rodgers was perfect, scoring 60 points with gold medals and A-10 records in all three events - the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 fly.
Diver Olivia Paquette was named the A-10 Women's Most Outstanding Diver for the second year in a row after her 37-point contribution, helping the women's team regain its crown with a gold medal in the 1-meter dive and a silver medal in the 3-meter dive.
Shae Stratton was named the A-10 Men's Most Outstanding Rookie, helping GW to the top with 35 points in his first trip to the conference. Stratton excelled in the backstroke events, earning gold in the 200 back and placing fourth in the 100 back.
