WASHINGTON - A big opportunity in the push for better seeding at the upcoming A-10 Championship presented itself when George Washington and Saint Joseph's met in D.C. Wednesday night. It resulted in the Hawks seizing the chance with a 79-68 road win.
A tight first half saw the visitors hold a 39-36 lead at intermission before Saint Joseph's surged ahead to take a 17-point lead edge midway through the second. The Revolutionaries didn't lay down and battled back, but couldn't get within two possessions as the Hawks closed it out late.
Rafael Castro double-doubled again in another 20-and-10 game with a game-high 20 points and game-high tying 11 boards, but he wasn't his typical efficient self in the 8-of-20 performance. Darren Buchanan Jr. also got into double figures with 13 points, while the Hawks had four players with 11+.
Another opportunity comes around Saturday with just four games remaining in the regular season. After slipping to Massachusetts on the road last month, GW's chance at revenge against the Minutemen and to get a seventh league win comes at 6 p.m. live on Monumental Sports Network.
