WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball returns home for a pair of critical contests at the Smith Center starting with a showdown against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
GW (6-7) and St. Joe's (6-6) are separated by just a half-game in the A-10 standings and Wednesday is the lone meeting between the programs in the regular season.
A WINNING SEASON OF QUALITY WINS
GW's victory on Saturday at Davidson was its 17th of the year, securing the program's first winning season since 2016-17 (20-15). The win was also GW's fourth "Quad 2" win of the season, joining victories at Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure as well as the home triumph over Dayton.
GW is tied for third in the A-10 with four Quad 1+2 wins and is one of only three teams to be .500 or better against the top two quadrants, joining George Mason (5-3) and VCU (6-4). Wednesday represents an opportunity for GW to pick up its fourth top-100 victory of the season having already bested Dayton (33rd at tip-off), Rhode Island (95th) and St. Bonaventure (95th).
PLAYING BEYOND THEIR YEARS
GW ranks 320th in the country, and last in the A-10, in KenPom's "D-I Experience" metric, averaging just 1.56 years played on the roster. Six of GW's 10 rotation players are underclassmen, accounting for 54% of the minutes played and 53% of the scoring this year.
Despite the lack of experience, GW has won six road and neutral games this season after combining for eight such wins in the past two years under Coach Caputo. The Buff & Blue are also 13-6 against teams with a .500 or better record at tip-off after an 18-24 mark the prior two years.
