WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its swimming & diving weekly awards on Tuesday, naming GW's Colleen MacWilliams the Women's Performer of the Week, Julia Gomez Carpi the Women's Rookie of the Week, and Andres Brooks the Men's Rookie of the Week. The awards come following GW's dual meet vs. Navy.Â
For MacWilliams, it's her first career weekly award, which she captured after earning victories in all four events she competed in vs. Navy, including individual victories in the 200-yard free (1:49.22), 200-yard back (1:59.70) and the 400-yard IM (4:20.15). MacWilliams closed her perfect meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard free relay (1:32.90). The junior from Salt Lake City currently ranks first in the A-10 in both the 200-yard back and the 400-yard IM.Â
Gomez Carpi has been a standout rookie for the Revolutionaries, earning her first career A-10 accolade. The breaststroke specialist claimed third in the 200-yard free (2:16.71) as GW's top finisher, tapping in less than a second behind Navy's top two finishers. The Belo Horizonte, Brazil native also closed the 100-yard breaststroke in fifth (1:03.79), finished the 200-yard medley relay in third (1:44.66) and the 200-yard free relay in fourth (1:36.69). Gomez Carpi currently ranks second in the A-10 in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
Brooks claimed his second A-10 Rookie of the Week award after his third meet with the Revolutionaries. The first-year from Austin, Texas, earned victory in the 400-yard IM (3:54.62), an event in which he leads the conference. Brooks also finished the 200-yard fly (1:48.71) in second place, while closing the 1,000-yard IM (9:43.99) in sixth.Â
GW now prepares for its mid-season invites later this month, when the swimmers head to NC State for the Wolfpack Elite Invitational (Nov. 20-22), and the divers compete at the Navy Diving Invitational (Nov. 21-23).
