
Swimming & Diving Tops West Virginia, Defeated by Pitt at Tri-Meet

PITTSBURGH - More GW dominance in the long distance events helped the George Washington University men's and women's swimming & diving teams come away with split results from Saturday's tri-meet, beating West Virginia (M: 184-110; W: 190-104), but falling to Pittsburgh in its home pool (M: 210.5-89.5; W: 215.5-84.5).
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Ava Topolewski did what she does best and swept the long-distance swims. Topolewski earned first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:58.30) and in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.91)

Molly Smyers came away victorious while improving her personal-best time and GW all-time top ten standing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.33). Smyers is now fifth-fastest in program history in the event.

Moriah Freitas tapped in second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.31), followed closely behind by her teammate Molly Smyers, who touched the wall third (2:02.00). Freitas later finished in second in the 100-yard butterfly (54.08).

Molly Smyers sped through the 200-yard IM for a second-place finish (2:02.78). Colleen MacWilliams tied for third behind Smyers (2:02.92) and moved up to eighth in GW's all-time top ten.

Olivia Paquette earned GW's lone diving podium finish, submitting a 303.40 on the 3-meter.

Chloe Hernandez sprinted to a third-place finish in the 50-yard free behind two Pitt swimmers (23.45).

Both the GW 200-yard medley relay (1:39.96), swam by Marlee Rickert, Natalie Sens, Freitas and Hernandez, and the 200-yard free relay (1:33.48), swam by Rickert, Hernandez, Sens and Topoleski, earned third place behind a pair of Panther teams.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Connor Rodgers (1:46.14) and Justin Dostal (1:48.65), who own the top two times in the 200-yard fly in GW history, showed their speed in the event and finished first and second, respectively.

Daniel Choi excelled in the long-distance swims, earning a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (4:29.58) and nabbing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:17.39).

Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan continued his dominance in the backstroke, earning first place by more than a full second (47.58).

Rodgers finished the 200-yard IM in second place (1:47.59)

Shae Stratton finished in second place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:47.18), nearing a GW all-time top ten time.

Shoon Li touched the wall third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.56), following a pair of Pitt swimmers.

GW's 200-yard freestyle relay, swam by Holen Thomas, AJ Wood, Daniel Nagy and Sivaramakrishnan, closed the meet with a second-place finish (1:21.23).
