90th Minute Goal Lifts Howard to Draw with Women’s Soccer

WASHINGTON – After taking a 2-1 lead midway through the second half, the George Washington women's soccer team was unable to secure the victory, relinquishing a 90th minute goal to Howard in a 2-2 draw. GW's record moves to 1-3-2 on the season with two non-conference matches remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 45th Minute: After playing over 44 minutes of scoreless soccer in the first half, sophomore Alexa Meinen notched her first goal of the season with just two seconds remaining until the halftime break. Meinen's goal was unassisted and gave GW a 1-0 lead over the Bison.
- 55th Minute: Out of the break, Howard recorded the equalizer via a goal from Mimi Richards. Richards now has three goals on the year with an assist going to Rachel Suttle.
- 73rd Minute: The GW Revs moved back on top midway through the second half, seeing senior Alicia Window notch her second goal of the season. Window's goal was also unassisted.
- 90th Minute: With just 27 seconds remaining, Howard evened the score off a goal from Samantha James. James' score was assisted by Kyra Bolden and resulted in the 2-2 draw.
NOTEWORTHY
- Both squads tallied an even 16 shots apiece. GW managed to put eight on frame, while Howard placed seven on target.
- Ainsley Lumpe played all 90 minutes in net for GW, recording five saves and allowing the two Howard goals. Trinity Knox spent all 90 in goal for Howard as well, tallying six saves on the day.
- Howard finished with a decisive 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- GW was penalized six times in the match compared to four for the Bison. Howard's Savannah Hersh was the lone player to receive a card, earning a yellow in the 84th minute.
