WASHINGTON – Following a 1-1 start to Atlantic 10 play last week, the George Washington women's soccer team prepares for a DMV battle with area rival George Mason. The contest is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the GW Soccer Field. Live coverage of the match will be available on ESPN+.
OPENING A-10 PLAY WITH A WIN
Last Thursday, GW opened conference play with a 1-0 victory over St. Bonaventure. The win marked the first time the program opened A-10 play with a win since 2020-21 season. Grad student Lauren Prentice came up clutch in the victory over the Bonnies, recording the game-winner in the 78th minute off assists from Amelia Booth and Kate McGrath. Senior Ainsley Lumpe was stellar in goal, tallying her first clean sheet of the season and turning away four shots.
A-10 STANDINGS UPDATE
Through one full week of A-10 action, GW is one of five other teams around the conference to go 1-1 in its first two matches. Saint Louis, GW's opponent last Sunday, is the lone team to go a perfect 2-0. Rhode Island also went undefeated but played just one match against La Salle to get conference play underway. A full breakdown of the current A-10 standings can be found here.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
George Mason enters the week 2-6-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference following a 3-0 defeat to Fordham last Thursday and a scoreless draw against VCU on Sunday. The Patriots, who host Dayton on Thursday before battling the Revolutionaries, are led by first-year head coach Aaron Brunner, who arrived in Fairfax after two seasons as an assistant at Florida State.
Statistically, the Patriots are led by Michi Hooks with two goals on the year. Hooks has 12 total shots and leads the team with six shots on goal. George Mason has tallied eight total goals on the season, and Hooks is the lone Patriot with multiple tallies in 2024. Selamawit Caldart and Victoria Coninck have split time at keeper for GM this season, with Caldart getting the majority of the time. She's started in eight matches, recording 41 total saves and a save percentage of .719. She was credited with both of the team's victories this year and has a goals-allowed average of 2.22. Coninck has started in three matches thus far, putting up 20 saves and a percentage of .690. She holds a record of 0-2-1.
