Second half goals from Prendergast and Nicholson seal first win of 2024 for Revolutionaries

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2024 season on Sunday, beating Saint Peter's 2-1 at the GW Soccer Field. The Revolutionaries fell behind in the first half after the Peacocks took the lead on a penalty kick, but GW stayed the course and leveled the match in the 63rd minute before taking the lead with the eventual game-winning goal in the 75th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
33rd Minute: A foul in the box led to a Saint Peter's penalty kick, which was converted by Conlan Paventi.

63rd Minute: Finn Roberts curled in a direct free kick, finding the head of Colin Prendergast, who tucked the ball in the side netting to level the match at 1-1.

75th Minute: Will Turner sent a leading pass just past Alex Nicholson, but the ball was mishandled as a Saint Peter's defender collided with his own goalkeeper, leaving Nicholson with an open net and the game-winning goal.

NOTABLE

GW outshot Saint Peter's, 26-6, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Jaden Dubon, Nicholson and Turner paced the Revolutionaries with four shots apiece.
Goalkeeper Duncan Wegner earned his fifth career win in his first start of 2024.
Five GW field players went the full 90 minutes: Roee Tenne, Joe Liebe, Mark Nakamura, Nico Medina and Prendergast.
Roberts picked up his first career point with his assist on Prendergast's goal.
Yellow cards were shown to Saint Peter's Charlie Hare (47th minute) and Daniel Larsson (83rd minute).
The win is the first in the GW coaching careers of assistant coaches Nick Conklu and Iain Langstone.
GW leveled the all-time series vs. Saint Peter's at 2-2-0.
