Paced by tennis' 3.88 cume GPA in the spring semester, GW Athletics enjoyed another stellar year in the classroom, punctuated with the announcement that 273 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The mark is just one off the university's all-time record of 274 that was established during the 2020-21 academic year when most classes were held virtually during the pandemic.
Across the Atlantic 10 Conference, a record 4,155 student-athletes received Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for 2023-24 academic year, the highest total in league history. Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport at a full member institution must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award.
Across all sports at GW, women's swimming & diving and gymnastics (competing in the EAGL conference), tied for second in team GPA in the spring with a mark of 3.58, leading the way for the department to boast a 3.40 GPA in the semester. More than half of GW's student-athletes achieved a GPA greater than 3.5 in the spring semester, while 42 earned a perfect 4.0.
