WASHINGTON - Welcome to the Ava show.
For the first time in almost 30 years, the George Washington women's swimming and diving team is sending multiple student-athletes to the Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Ava DeAngelis and Ava Topolewski have each qualified for the NCAA Championships, where they will become the first GW duo to rep the Buff & Blue on the national stage since Bambi Bowman and Meghan Mitchell in 1995.
DeAngelis, a junior from Duxbury, Mass., will make her first appearance at the NCAA Championships after qualifying with an A-10 and program record time in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.75). DeAngelis became an A-10 Individual Champion for the first time this year, and will now look to add to her resume in Georgia. DeAngelis will be seeded 37th at the national meet in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Topolewski, a sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, will also make her first appearance at the NCAA Championships after cutting roughly 20 seconds off her personal-best in the 1,650-yard freestyle and setting an A-10 and program record (16:08.48). Topolewski is a multi-time A-10 Individual Champion and will enter the NCAA Championships seeded 24th in the country in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
DeAngelis and Topolewski will compete at the NCAA Championships on March 20-23, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.
