Lock-Down Defense and Clutch Buckets Lead Women’s Basketball to Win at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Nya Robertson's clutch fadeaway jumper with 12 seconds remaining helped lift the George Washington women's basketball team to a 45-40 victory of Davidson on Wednesday night. The Revolutionaries have now won four of their last seven contests, finding their stride down the stretch of the season.
After both teams struggled to find consistent offense early on, GW used a 6-0 run to close out the opening quarter with a 14-8 lead. Robertson tallied GW's first eight points of the game, GW's only offense through the first eight minutes of the game. In the second quarter, GW's other Nya, Nya Lok, stepped up in a big way. Lok buried three triples in the quarter, tallying nine of the Revolutionaries' 10 points in the frame. GW was ultimately outscored 12-10 in the quarter, cutting the lead down to 24-20 at the break.
Out of halftime, offense continued to be a struggle for both teams. Essence Brown gave GW life early on with two straight layups but picked up her third foul quickly in the quarter to force her to GW's bench. The Revolutionaries would only muster three more points the rest of the stanza, heading into the final 10 minutes tied up at 31.\
Davidson struck first, tallying four straight points to open the quarter and take its largest lead of the game at 35-31. GW's defense would quickly tighten up, only allowing the Wildcats to score five points in the final eight minutes of the game. After Robertson knocked down a long turnaround 3-pointer with 3:48 left to draw GW within one, Asjah Inniss ultimately put the Buff & Blue on top with a running floater at the 3:09 mark. GW wouldn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way, holding Davidson scoreless for the final 4:55 of the game. Robertson sealed the deal for GW, knocking in a fadeaway jumper in the paint to push GW's lead to three points with 12 seconds to go. Robertson would add two more free throws with three seconds left to give GW a two-possession lead and seal the win.
Robertson led all scorers with a game-high 21 points. She also added three rebounds and two assists. Lok finished with nine points and six rebounds, while Mayowa Taiwo was dominant in the paint with 14 rebounds. Inniss chipped in five points and two steals, while Brown and Kamari Sims both finished with four points each.
GW will conclude the 2024 regular season on Saturday when it hosts Loyola Chicago at 2:00 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be held pregame, with live coverage of the contest available on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+.
