VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sarah Mitchell's stellar showing in the 3000m and GW's 4x400m relay team headlined results from the 2024 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championships. The Buff & Blue saw one school record broken and three PR's to cap-off the indoor season.
Mitchell shattered her previous PR of 9:54.30 in the 3000m with a new time of 9:42.56 to place second in the event out of a 38-runner field. Mitchell was eight seconds off the winning pace, set by Loyola Chicago's Grace Kuhn. Mitchell's time is also second-fastest in program history, only behind Suzanne Dannheim's mark of 9:28.08 set at the David Hemery Valentine Invite during the 2019-20 season.
GW's 4x400m relay team of Kamryn Holness, Rachel Horowitz, Alexia Massoud and Rita Mazumder tallied a cumulative time of 3:58.16 to shatter the previous program record of 4:34.53 that stood for nine years. The record now means Horowitz has either set or been a part of setting six program records this season including the 60m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 500m and now the 4x400m. Horowitz competed in the 400m at the A-10 Championships this weekend, finishing with a 57.78 for 10th place.
Holness also competed in the 200m, setting a time of 26.47, while GW teammate Janae Russell recorded a PR with a 26.26 in the same event. Russell would also go on to clock an 8.09 in the 60m. Lola Dinneen recorded a 5:15.41 in the mile, her event debut, while Una Boylan (10:23.75) and Catherine Rufino (10:52.40) both competed in the 3000m for GW. Olivia Syftestad finished in 15th with a time of 10:15.74 in the 3000m, a solid showing to cap her indoor season.
The GW Revs return to action for the outdoor season on March 22 at the Richmond Fred Hardy Invite. More details on the 2024 outdoor season can be found at GWsports.com.
