WASHINGTON – Following a record-breaking showing last weekend, the George Washington women's indoor track & field team is set to make the short drive to George Mason on Friday and compete at the Father Diamond Invitational. The event has a start time of 2 p.m. and will be held inside the George Mason Recreation Sports Complex.
One week ago, graduate Rachel Horowitz set two program records to headline GW's performance at the BU Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. Horowitz started the day with a standout performance in the 400m dash, recording a 57.13 to set a new GW program record. The previous 400m dash record of 1:00.21 was set by Brittany Wilkinson during the 2021-22 season. Horowitz followed up her record-breaking performance with another GW record, this time in the 200m dash. Horowitz turned in a time of 25.20 to beat the previous top mark of 26.23 by over a second. The old record was set by Horowitz's teammate Kamryn Holness, who set the time earlier this season at the Youree Spence-Garcia Meet.
Along with Horowitz, GW also saw production from Sarah Mitchell and Lola Dinneen, who both competed in the mile. Mitchell finished with a time of 4:55.49 in the event, while Dinneen clocked a mark of 5:19.39. Rounding out GW's runners were Una Boylan and Olivia Syftestad, who both took part in the 3000m run. Boylan registered a 10:02.00 while Syftestad finished just behind with a 10:04.00.
Friday's event will be the second meet hosted by the Patriots this season. GW previously competed at George Mason on Jan. 27, and saw seven different top-10 finishes in various events. Rita Mazumder led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 1,000m, while Janae Russell finished eighth in the 200m.
