MIAMI, Fla. – Behind stellar shooting from behind the arc, the Miami of Ohio RedHawks downed the George Washington women's basketball team, 74-49, in the opening game of the FIU Christmas Classic.
Miami's red-hot shooting started right from the jump, lacing 56% from the floor and 75% from deep in the first quarter. GW held pace for a while, but the RedHawks eventually opened up a 26-15 advantage to end the first stanza.
After an early triple from Kyraha Parnell, her first collegiate three-pointer, and a layup from Morgan Matthews, GW's offense went ice cold, failing to score a point over the next five minutes of action. Miami capitalized on the opportunity, going on a 9-0 run over that span to break open a 37-20 lead. The RedHawks didn't look back, cruising to victory.
GW was paced by Sara Lewis with 10 points and nine rebounds. Paige Mott also recorded 10 points, all scored in the fourth quarter, to go along with two boards. Matthews and Parnell tallied six points apiece, while Makayla Andrews and Maxine Engel chipped in five each.
The Buff & Blue return to action tomorrow, facing Hampton in the final game of the FIU Christmas Classic at 2:00 p.m. The matchup will be carried live on ESPN+.
