Men’s Basketball Dispatches Lafayette, 82-62

WASHINGTON - Fueled by another prolific shooting show in a career night from Gerald Drumgoole Jr. and a near-perfect 16-of-17 night at the charity stripe, GW men's basketball cruised to a 82-62 victory Wednesday night against the visiting Leopards of Lafayette.
Drumgoole, the grad transfer from Delaware, canned multiple triples for the eighth-straight game, this time popping off for a personal-best six threes en route to his game- and career-high 30 points. Meanwhile the GW Revs made their first 13 free throws, until Drumgoole, in a bit of irony, missed the and-one after a bucket that put George Washington up 66-48 with 5:48 to play.
The sixth of Drumgoole's threes was of the highlight variety, as he made up for the incomplete and-one a few minutes earlier with a four-point play — his second of the night — giving him a round 30 points and staking GW with its largest lead of the game at 20 with just under three minutes to play.
Trey Autry (12), Darren Buchanan Jr. (11) and Rafael Castro (10) also scored in double digits for GW, while Castro nearly double-doubled with his game-high nine rebounds, in a game that the Revolutionaries dominated the glass with a 43-26 rebounding edge.
Sean Hansen, the Cornell transfer, was big on the stat sheet everywhere but the scoring column, doing everything that winning players do, with his team-high four steals and three assists, along with seven boards.
George Washington now puts a bow on the semester and the non-conference slate Sunday at noon against UVA Wise, live on ESPN+.
