Women’s Basketball Makes First Trip Outside The District, Battle Ohio on Saturday

WASHINGTON – After handling business against VU-Lynchburg on Monday, the George Washington women's basketball team makes its first trip outside of The District, battling Ohio on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Live coverage of the contest will be available on ESPN+.
REYNOLDS NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Following a stellar opening week to her collegiate career, standout guard Gabby Reynolds was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 11. Reynolds became the first Revolutionary to earn the honor since January of 2023.
In her collegiate debut on Nov. 4, the 2023-24 Michigan Miss Basketball Award winner didn't disappoint. Reynolds orchestrated GW's offense like a seasoned veteran, tallying 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field while also dishing out three assists and grabbing two rebounds.
Following the season opener, Reynolds put up another stellar game against Howard on Nov. 8. She poured in a game-high 22 points, shooting 7-for-15 from the field and 3-for-7 from deep. Reynolds also pulled down eight boards in her 37 minutes of action. Through her first three collegiate games, Reynolds is averaging 15.7 points per contest on 47.1% shooting, first among rookies in the Atlantic 10 and 11th overall in the conference. She's also averaging 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
REVOLUTIONARIES ADD THREE DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
Head Coach Caroline McCombs and the George Washington women's basketball team landed three signees during the NCAA's early signing period, which began on Wednesday. The Buff & Blue are excited to welcome Mia James, Charish Thompson and Payton Dulin to the program.
"We are elated about our 2024-25 recruiting class," said McCombs. "We are bringing in high-character young women who will compete in the classroom and on the basketball court. All three have an amazing spirit and I believe they will thrive in the type of environment that we create at GW. Our staff did a tremendous job of finding the right people to continue to elevate our program."
James signs with GW after putting together a solid career at Hebron Christian Academy, where she averages 12 points, five assists, three assists and three steals per game. James is a three-time Georgia State Champion with Hebron Christian and helped lead the team to a 32-2 overall record last season, capturing the program's 17th state title. In her three years of varsity basketball, James and Hebron Christian have a combined 96-2 overall record, including perfect seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Entering her senior year, James and Hebron Christian are the third-ranked team nationally according to MaxPreps.
Thompson joins the Buff & Blue with three successful seasons of prep basketball under her belt at Sachse High School in Texas. A three-time First-Team All-District honoree, Thompson averages 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in her career. She was the district Defensive Player of the Year during her sophomore season and followed that up with a regional Player of the Year award last season as a junior. Thompson is already a member of Sachse's 1,000-point club and also earned All-State honors for the first time last year as well.
A native of Baldwin, N.Y., Dulin is set to join GW for the 2025-26 season after leading Baldwin to two AA Long Island Championships. The three-time county champion and First-Team All-Long Island honoree tallied her 1,000th career point during her junior year and earned New York All-State honors in the same season as well. Dulin has helped guide Baldwin's program to a 54-4 record over her first three years. She's also been honored twice at the conference level, winning the Nassau County Player of the Year award following the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio enters Saturday's game 0-2 overall, suffering setbacks to Georgia Southern and Bellarmine. The Bobcats are led by Head Coach Bob Boldon who's in his 12th season with the program. Boldon has amassed a 196-144 record over his tenure with Ohio, and a 294-232 mark in his 18 seasons as a head coach. GW leads the all-time series over the Bobcats, 2-1, winning the most recent matchup 74-57 during the 2022-23 season.
Ohio is led statistically by Bailey Tabeling who averages 15.5 points per game. Tabeling is one of just two players who are currently averaging double figures, joining Kennedi Watkins, who puts up 14.0 points per night. Tabeling is also second on the team in rebounding at 5.5 rpg and assists at 2.0 apg. Monica Williams leads the team in both of those categories, averaging 7.5 boards and 3.0 assists.
