GW Revs host No. 20 Navy, (RV) Bucknell and Mount St. Mary’s from Friday through Sunday
WASHINGTON - The (RV) George Washington University men's water polo team (10-6, 6-1 MAWPC), currently receiving votes in the national poll, returns home this weekend for a trio of conference matches. The weekend kicks off on Friday night as the Revolutionaries play host to No. 20 Navy (7:00 p.m., Long Bridge Park, Arlington, Va.), and continues on Saturday afternoon vs. (RV) Bucknell (12:00 p.m., Charles E. Smith Center, Washington, D.C.) before wrapping up on Sunday afternoon vs. Mount St. Mary's (2:00 p.m., Lejeune Hall, Annapolis, Md.). Friday and Saturday's matches will be streamed live on the GW Athletics YouTube page.Â
FOUR-GAME WIN STREAK
The Revolutionaries enter the weekend riding a four-game win streak, which dates back to its 3-0 weekend on Oct. 12-13. GW's wins in that stretch have all come on the road against conference foes, and includes wins vs. Bucknell (13-12), Mercyhurst (21-11), Mount St. Mary's (15-14) and Johns Hopkins (14-12). As a result, the Revolutionaries have catapulted into the second seed in the conference (12 points), trailing only the undefeated Fordham Rams (14 points), and they have continued to stay just outside the national rankings, receiving one vote in the most recent CWPA Top-20.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Navy enters Friday's matchup at 14-7 and 4-2 in the MAWPC, and sits in fourth in the conference standings (8 points), but with one less game played than most. The Midshipmen were ranked No. 20 in the recent CWPA Top-20 with seven total votes. Navy went 2-2 at the Brown/Harvard Invitational last weekend, falling to No. 13 San Jose State (16-13) and No. 19 Brown (10-9), while picking up wins over Mercyhurst (18-10) and UC Merced (17-14). This is the first meeting between GW and Navy this season, and GW is looking for its first win vs. the Midshipmen since the 2022 regular season. Â
Bucknell comes into action at 9-11 overall and 5-3 in the MAWPC, sitting in third in the conference standings (10 points) and also just outside the CWPA Top-20, receiving two votes in the latest poll. Bucknell went 1-3 at last weekend's Brown/Harvard Invitational, falling to No. 13 San Jose State (13-7), No. 11 Harvard (19-17) and Salem (13-12), while picking up a win over LIU (21-13). The teams will match up for the second time in two weeks. The first game resulted in a 13-12 GW victory, as the Revolutionaries were helped by high offensive outputs from Antonio Florena (five goals) and Andrija Sekulic (four goals).
Mount St. Mary's has an overall record of 5-21 with a 3-5 mark in conference, and it is currently in sixth place in the MAWPC. The Mount also participated in the Brown/Harvard Invitational where they went 1-3, falling to No. 19 Brown (20-12), Salem (25-17) and Chapman (16-13), while picking up a win over UC Merced (15-11). The Mount battled hard vs. GW in their first meeting this season, but the Revolutionaries proved to be too much for Mount St. Mary's to handle as GW escaped with a 15-14 win, thanks in part to six goals from Adonis Vlassis and five goals from Yam Kabakov.Â
