BALTIMORE - The (RV) George Washington University water polo team (10-6, 6-1 MAWPC) took down Johns Hopkins (9-15, 2-5 MAWPC), 14-12, on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.
GW built an early lead, finishing the first quarter up 4-1 and going into the half at 8-2. Johns Hopkins, however, came storming back in the second half, cutting into GW's lead and getting as close as 9-8 in the third quarter, but the Revolutionaries managed to stay ahead for the entire second half. Big fourth-quarter goals from Yam Kabakov, Adonis Vlassis and Antonio Florena helped create separation and clinch the GW win.
Florena paced all Revolutionaries with four goals and one assist. Andrija Sekulic (three goals, two assists) and Vlassis (two goals, two assists) each submitted four points to the ledger, while goalkeeper Luca Castorina made an impressive 14 saves in the win.
GW will return to the DMV for three home matches next weekend, which begins with the Revolutionaries' home opener vs. Navy on Friday night (7:00 p.m.) at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va.
