Men’s Soccer Welcomes Howard Tuesday, Ventures to Davidson Saturday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team (2-3-2, 0-1-0 A-10) is gearing up for two matches this week. The Revolutionaries welcome Howard (0-4-0, 0-0-0 NEC) to the The Vern on Tuesday (3 p.m.) for a crosstown matchup, before traveling to Davidson, N.C. for a Saturday afternoon (1 p.m.) league match against Davidson (4-0-1, 1-0-0 A-10). Tuesday's match will be streamed on ESPN+, while Saturday's match will be available via live stats.
HISTORY AGAINST HOWARD
Tuesday's match will be the 47th all-time meeting between GW and Howard, with the schools deadlocked at 20-20-6. Backed by a goal from then first-year Alex Nicholson, GW won the most recent match against the Bison, 5-0, last year at the GW Soccer Field.
HISTORY AGAINST THE 'CATS
GW holds a 7-2-2 advantage in the all-time series and are unbeaten in its last four matches against Davidson, which includes a 1-0 win over the Wildcats in 2022. GW is 3-2-0 all-time as the visitors in the matchup.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Howard is looking for its first win of the season after dropping all four matches to begin the year. The Bison have yet to play a home match in 2023, having made trips to No. 5 Pittsburgh, Navy, UMBC and NC State. Howard has recorded just five shots on goal and has been outscored 16-1.
Marcus Lewis has the only goal for the Bison in 2023, which came in Howard's 3-1 loss to NC State. Benjamin Hoesli and JR Gawel have split time in net and have combined for 26 saves this year.
Davidson is currently riding a three-match win streak and is yet to be beaten in 2023. The Wildcats have wins over Presbyterian, Averett, UNC Greensboro and George Mason, and a draw versus Virginia Tech. Davidson has been stout defensively to start the year, having allowed just one goal in its five contests.
Vincent Bennage leads the Wildcats' attack with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist), followed closely by Denis Krioutchenkov with six points (2 goals, 2 assists) and Clarke Alonzo with five points (2 goals, 1 assist). Lou Liedtka has played every minute in net for the 'Cats and has a goals allowed average of 0.20.
Davidson hosts Charlotte on Wednesday evening ahead of Saturday's match against GW.
LOOKING AHEAD
GW will return home for a midweek non-conference match against Delaware on Tuesday, Sept. 26 (3 p.m.), before heading back into league play on Saturday, Sept. 30 (12 p.m.), for a battle at UMass.
