WASHINGTON - GW swimming and diving announced the hire of Assistant Coach Kyrylo Shvets on Tuesday, joining Head Coach Brian Thomas, Head Diving Coach Christopher Lane and Assistant Coach Lauren Sullivan for the 2023-24 season.
"During the hiring process, Kyrylo immediately rose to the top of our priority list and I was thrilled when he accepted," said Thomas. "When filling out our staff, I needed to find candidates that brought a really strong work ethic and demonstrated a desire to work in a really competitive environment, and I think we've achieved that."
Shvets, originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word with both a bachelor's and master's degree in sports management. During that time, Shvets swam for the Incarnate Word and became a multi-time CCSA conference champion.
"I'm grateful for the exciting opportunity to join the GW staff as the Assistant Swim Coach!" Shvets said. "It is a thrilling opportunity to work with such an amazing team of young athletes and coaches. I can't wait to see what we can achieve together in and out of the pool."
Shvets was a dominant swimmer for Incarnate Word between 2015-18. Shvets set multiple CCSA records, including the 500 free conference record and 200 free meet record. In 2017, Shvets was chosen as the CCSA Swimmer of the Meet.
After college, Shvets became a volunteer assistant coach for Incarnate Word from 2018-2022, where he was eventually promoted to full-time assistant in January 2023. Shvets, who also coached club swimming for Streamline Aquatics from 2018-2023, brings a wealth of both swimming and coaching experience to the team at 22 & G.
