Women’s Soccer Cruises Past Delaware State for First Win of 2023

Six different Revolutionaries tally a goal to lead GW to victory.
WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's soccer team put together a dominating effort in its 2023 season-opener, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Delaware State.
Six different Revolutionaries tallied a goal in the win, marking the most goals scored in a match since the 2021 spring season when GW defeated Delaware State by an identical score of 7-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Revolutionaries will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 20, when they travel to face Bucknell. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.

Six different Revolutionaries tallied a goal in the win, marking the most goals scored in a match since the 2021 spring season when GW defeated Delaware State by an identical score of 7-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 3rd Minute: The Buff & Blue immediately found the scoreboard via a goal from redshirt first-year Alana Beasley off an assist from sophomore Aoi Kataoka.
- 13th Minute: GW registered its second goal of the contest when junior Maggie Mockenhaupt headed in a corner kick from Kataoka to double the Revolutionaries' lead.
- 21st Minute: Junior Maya Goudeseune tallied her first career goal on a right footed tap-in off a deflection from Mockenhaupt's shot.
- 36th Minute: Senior Lauren Prentice added to GW's lead with a right-footed rocket past the goalkeeper off an assist from junior Kelly Poole.
- 44th Minute: First-year Abby Caoile tallied her first collegiate goal right before halftime off a rebound from first-year Addi Verdon's shot.
- 58th Minute: GW picked up right where it left off in the second half when first-year Alexa Meinen tallied her first collegiate goal off an assist from Prentice.
- 87th Minute: Caoile capped off the match with a late unassisted goal to give GW the seventh score of the afternoon. The goal was Caoile's second in her first collegiate match.
- GW is now 9-0 all-time against Delaware State dating back to their first matchup in 2008.
- Six different Revolutionaries tallied a goal in the contest including five different players who registered their first career goal. First-time goal scorers include Maya Goudeseune, Maggie Mockenhaupt, Alexa Meinen, Alana Beasley and Abby Caoile.
- Sophomore Grace Crowe and junior Ainsley Lumpe combined for seven saves to give GW its first clean sheet of the season. Crowe tallied six saves on the day, while Lumpe registered one stop.
- Sophomore Aoi Kataoka dished out two assists on the day.
- First-year Addi Verdon tallied the first assist of her career in the 44th minute.
- GW finished with a 41-12 advantage in shots, a 23-7 edge in shots on goal, and an 8-3 lead in corner kicks.
The Revolutionaries will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 20, when they travel to face Bucknell. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
