7/20/2023 4:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball's Thanksgiving trip to the Bahamas as part of the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship at the Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center will tip-off on Friday, Nov. 24 with an opening-round matchup against Ohio at 7 p.m., the tournament host, bdG Sports, announced on Thursday.
The Revolutionaries are returning to Nassau for the second time in five years after going 2-1 at the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase in 2019 with wins over Evansville and Milwaukee.
"We're excited to participate in the Baha Mar Nassau Championship," head coach Chris Caputo said. "Opening up with a really good program like Ohio that has had recent NCAA Tournament success will be a great matchup and litmus test for us early in the season."
The Bobcats out of the MAC went 19-14 a season ago and have posted a winning record in all four seasons under head coach Jeff Boals. Ohio advanced to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament as a 13-seed after defeating Virginia, 62-58, and won 25 games in 2022, participating in the CBI. The two programs will meet for the first time since GW thumped Ohio, 77-49, in the opening round of the 2014 Diamond Head Classic.
GW's second-round matchup will come against either Middle Tennessee State or Illinois-Chicago at 1:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25. MTSU has won 45 games the last two seasons under head coach Nick McDevitt, advancing to the CBI Championship in 2022 during a 26-11 campaign. UIC was 12-20 a year ago, their first season in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Buff & Blue have never faced MTSU and are 1-1 vs. UIC with the last meeting coming in the 2017 CBI.
Sunday, Nov. 26 will feature a matchup for the Buff & Blue against one of Kansas City, UNC Greensboro, Brown or Delaware at either 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. All three games will be aired on FloHoops.
