The Joe B. Hall award is presented annually to the top first-time head coach in Division I college basketball.
A longtime Kentucky assistant, Joe B. Hall was given the task of following the legendary Adolph Rupp at the school. In his first season, Hall finished 20-8, won the SEC and advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals.
Caputo guided the Colonials to their best regular season in six years in his initial season at the helm of the program. Under his guidance, GW registered the most overall wins (16), most A-10 victories (10) and most A-10 road wins (5) since 2017. The Buff & Blue also registered the first four-game winning streak since the 2016-17 campaign.
Caputo's tutelage unlocked the potential for three All-Conference honorees, including A-10 Most Improved Player Brendan Adams, A-10 Rookie of the Year Maximus Edwards and A-10 First Team All-Conference performer James Bishop IV.
The recipient of the 2023 award will be announced in March, in Houston, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
