Sophomore placed 52nd in the 200-yard breaststroke
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore star swimmer Julia Knox closed out her stay at the NCAA Championships on Saturday morning, placing 52nd (2:14.37) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Knox will return home to Foggy Bottom as the first women's swimmer to represent the Buff and Blue on the national stage since 1995 and brings home 46th place in the 200-yard IM, 24th place in the 400-yard IM and 52nd place in the 200-yard breaststroke.
"Julia's performance this year was extremely special," said Head Coach Brian Thomas. "You'd have to say she's the best in 28 years at GW for women's swimming. Establishing a new standard of doing things, how we do things at GW, is the most existing part of that."
Knox, who won the bronze medal in the 200-yard breaststroke at the 2023 A-10 Championships, improved three spots from her seeding in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish in 52nd place.
"It was a really fun week being able to go to a meet of that caliber with someone like Julia, and just knowing that she's only a sophomore and there's so much more ahead of her is really exciting," Thomas finished.
The Northern Ireland native returns to Foggy Bottom with experience against the nations best under her belt and will look forward to her junior season.
