Sophomore swimmer takes 46th out of 69 in the 200-IM
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Julia Knox opened her stay at the NCAA Championships on Thursday morning with a quality performance in the 200-yard IM. Knox was seeded 53rd entering the event and came away with a 46th-place finish (1:58.32), seven spots above her seed.
The sophomore has shown steady improvement in the 200-yard IM and has accomplished tall feats through two years at GW. As a first-year, Knox brought home the silver medal (1:59.20) in the 100-yard IM at the 2022 A-10 Championships. Then in her sophomore year, Knox paced the field in the 200-yard IM at the 2023 A-10 Championships, collecting not only the gold medal (1:57.81), but also the program and conference records.
"Happy with Julia's swim this morning," said Brian Thomas. "Moving up seven spots was good to see. Julia was really fast on fly, maybe three-tenths faster than she was at the Atlantic 10 meet. It was her best prelim swim ever, so that was good, and I think it was a momentum gain for tomorrow. She felt pretty good about it and has a great attitude about everything. We just had some fun this morning and I think we've got to keep doing that in order to have success, so we'll see what that means for tomorrow."
Knox will now shift her focus to tomorrow's 400-yard IM - the event that got her to the NCAA Championships. The 400-yard IM will kick off tomorrow's prelims at 10 a.m., and Knox enters seeded 33rd in a field of 52.
