NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Phoebe Wright, Riley Kudlac and Michael Wood have been selected by the conference for A-10 weekly awards following GW's impressive stay at the Princeton Big Al Invitational last weekend. The conference named Wright as the A-10 Women's Co-Performer of the Week, Kudlac as the A-10 Women's Rookie Performer of the Week and Wood as the A-10 Men's Rookie Performer of the Week.
Wright, a sophomore from Cincinnati, was chosen as the A-10 Co-Performer of the Week (with Fordham's Manon Compagner) after her 44-point weekend, which was highlighted by her performance in the 200-yard backstroke where she placed second in prelims on her way to winning the A-final and setting a new GW program record (1:55.22). Wright had high performances across the board at Big Al; she scored in three other individual events (200 free/7th place/1:48.15; 100 back/10th place/54.74; 500 free/12th/4:49.76) and had a myriad of top relay finishes.
Wright led three of her four relays to top-five finishes, including the 400-yard medley relay to a win (3:38.80), with the help of Ava DeAngelis, Moriah Freitas, and the A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week, Kudlac.
Kudlac, in her first year out of Glastonbury, Conn., was named A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week for the second time this season (first came after Navy dual meet). Along with her victory in the 400-yard medley relay, Kudlac performed well and had high finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay (4th, 1:31.89), the 400-yard freestyle relay (6th, 3:22.04), the 800-yard freestyle relay (7th, 7:24.90), the 100-yard freestyle (8th, 50.80) and the 50-yard freestyle (22nd, 23.57).
Wood, a first-year from Rochester, N.Y., earns the A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week nod after high finishes in all three events over the weekend. Wood made the finals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, placing eighth in the 1-meter A-final (254.15) and fourth in the 3-meter B-final (270.90), before closing the meet in tenth place in the platform dive (217.50). With Woods' selection, GW has now earned all four A-10 weekly honors this season.
