The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95, four percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 91.
GW's men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country & track, golf, gymnastics, women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball programs all achieved a perfect 100 score.
"Our industry continues to evolve with new opportunities and challenges, alike. Still, we remain focused on our unwavering commitment to positive student outcomes," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "The GSR is just one measure of that, and through the prioritization of academic excellence by our university leadership, coaches and support staff, our students are getting the very best education, mentoring and preparation for the world beyond sport."
The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. This GSR data is based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, which includes all scholarship student-athletes across the country who entered college from 2013-2014 through 2016-2017.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years. The GSR provides information for student-athletes who received athletics aid for any period of time during their first year.
