Men's Basketball Returns Home for Clash with Navy

WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball opens up a six-game homestand that will encompass the next 29 days with a 7 p.m. tip against Navy on Monumental Sports Network and ESPN+.
MIRACLE ON 22ND STREET: GW's annual tailgate outside the Smith Center returns on Tuesday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on 22nd Street between F and G Streets. All fans are welcome to attend and enjoy free food from vendors, including DIG, Dominos, GW Dining, Johnsonville, Tonic and Saya. The Foghorns will also perform to entertain fans beginning at approximately 6 p.m.

GW received a trio of double-digit performances from freshmen and redshirt freshmen on Friday at South Carolina with first-years accounting for 41 of the team's 67 points.
Darren Buchanan Jr. led the way with 18 points and six rebounds, his seventh-straight game in double digits. Buchanan is tied with James Bishop IV and Maximus Edwards for the most double-figure games this season. Trey Autry (13 points, 3-6 3s) and Jacoi Hutchinson (10 points, 5 assists) both set career-highs off the bench on Friday.
GW has now received 16 double-digit performances from four different freshmen this season in Buchanan (7), Garrett Johnson (6), Autry (2) and Hutchinson (1). Through seven games, GW has received 46.8% of its offense from freshmen and redshirt freshmen.

GW is averaging 25.8 bench points per game this season, third-most in the A-10 and has outscored opponents' reserves in all but one game this season (Hofstra, 14-15).
A LOOK AT THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy enters play on Tuesday at 2-4, but is coming off back-to-back blowout victories over VMI (67-47) and Coppin State (75-52). Austin Benigni leads a balanced attack with 11.5 ppg and 3.2 apg. The Midshipmen have five additional student-athletes averaging between 5.5 ppg and 8.2 ppg.
Navy's strength is on the defensive end of the floor, where it ranks 24th nationally by allowing just 62.2 ppg. Navy also ranks among the national leaders in 3-point defense (24.6%, 5th), turnovers forced per game (16.2, 31st), turnover margin (3.8, 39th) and steals per game (8.5, 63rd).
