NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - For her part in GW's takedown of Pittsburgh in last weekend's Long Course Meters (LCM) dual meet, Ava Topolewski has been named the A-10 Performer of the Week, the conference announced. Topolewski played a major role in GW's LCM dual-meet victory at Pitt last weekend, as she went a perfect 4/4 in event wins while breaking a GW LCM program record.
Topolewski kicked off the meet with the long swim of the day - the 1500 LCM freestyle - which she won by over 33 seconds (17:03.20). Topolewski continued her dominance in the 200 LCM butterfly by breaking GW's LCM program record with her first-place finish (2:19.14).
The Grand Prairie, Texas native showed no signs of slowing in her final individual event, as she comfortably tapped in first (4:26.54) in the 400 LCM freestyle. Topolewski put the exclamation mark on her stellar meet in the 400 LCM freestyle relay, where she anchored the Revolutionaries to another event win (3:52.22).
The award marks the third-consecutive meet that a Revolutionary has been selected for the A-10 weekly awards: redshirt-senior Djurjde Matic earned A-10 Performer of the Week following the Rutgers Invite, while first-year Riley Kudlac was dubbed A-10 Rookie of the Week following GW's dual meet at Navy.
GW swimming and diving returns on Thursday, Nov. 16 when the divers set out to compete at the West Virginia Diving Invitational. Then, GW will look ahead towards the Princeton Invitational - the Buff and Blue's midseason meet which goes from Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
