SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The George Washington women's basketball team suffered its fourth-straight loss, falling to Charlotte on the final day of the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout. The 49ers defeated the Revolutionaries, 50-38, the lowest point total for GW this season.
The Buff & Blue struggled offensively to start the game, only tallying four points in the opening eight minutes. After trailing 16-7 at the end of the first, GW steadied the ship, playing Charlotte to an even nine points apiece in the second quarter.
Early in the third quarter, the 49ers grew the lead to 12 at 30-18. GW wouldn't manage to get within single digits for the rest of the game, failing to ever get a groove on the offensive end. GW finished the contest 16-57 (28.1%) from the field and just 3-20 (15%) from three-point range.
The Revolutionaries were led by Madison Buford with seven points, while Nya Robertson added six points and two rebounds. Mayowa Taiwo and Maren Durant both added four points and five rebounds for GW, while Taylor Webster pulled down a team-high six boards. Charlotte was led by Dazia Lawrence and Tracey Hueston with 12 points each. Hueston added seven rebounds for Charlotte as well.
GW returns to the DMV on Thursday to host Cheyney. Tip-off inside the Smith Center is set for 6 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
