Swimming and Diving Falls to Talented Navy Teams

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The reigning Atlantic 10 Champions and reigning Patriot League Champions met in Annapolis, Md. on Saturday morning, and despite 11 total event wins for the Buff and Blue, the George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Navy, 162.5-137.5 (W) and 154.00-134.00 (M).
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

GW earned big points from the diving contingent on both boards, taking five out of six top-three finishes across both boards. On the 1m board, GW swept the top-three spots, led by Olivia Paquette in first (266.33), Dara Reyblat (259.20) in second and Keira Porter in third (240.83). Then on the 3m board, Paquette (278.48) and Reyblat (264.00) took first and second place again.

Sophomore Ava Topolewski won (10:17.53) the 1,000-yard freestyle for the second time in three tries this season with her second-best time of the year (best was 10:16.92 vs. Virginia Tech). First-year Zoe Schneider took third in the event (10:22.65). The talented duo of long-distance swimmers later took the top-two spots in the 500-yard freestyle, with Topolewski taking first (5:03.21) and Schneider taking second (5:03.42).

Sophomore Phoebe Wright earned full points for the Buff and Blue in the 200-yard freestyle with her first-place finish (1:52.66). Later, Wright won her second race of the day in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.37), and also picked up a second-place finish (56.85) in the 100-yard backstroke.

Butterfly specialist Moriah Freitas edged out the competition in the 200-yard butterfly to finish in first place (2:04.27). Topolewski didn't trail far behind as she finished in third place (2:06.05). Later on, Freitas finished the 100-yard butterfly in second place (56.29).

In both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes, Ava DeAngelis finished in second place (100-yard: 1:04.46; 200-yard: 2:20.97).

Riley Kudlac took home second place in the 100-yard freestyle (52.09).

The women's 200-yard medley relay, which was swam by Yulia Groysman, DeAngelis, Freitas and Kudlac tapped in at 1:44.98, good enough for third place.

Kudlac and Chloe Hernandez finished the 50-yard free in third (24.19) and fourth (24.29) place, respectively.

Julia Knox and Molly Smyers took third (2:08.33) and fourth (2:08.53) in the 200-yard IM, respectively.

The GW 200-yard freestyle 'A' relay closed out the meet with a second-place finish (1:35.80), swam by Kudlac, Topolewski, Hernandez and Barbara Schaal.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Djurdje Matic, who won two events at the Rutgers Invite on his way to being named the A-10 Performer of the Week, won another two events against Navy. Matic out-sprinted the field and won the 50-yard freestyle (20.69), before flying past the competition and winning the 100-yard butterfly (47.54).

Newcomer Toni Dragoja paced all swimmers with a 45.57 in the 100-yard freestyle, good enough for first place.

Connor Rodgers impressed in the 400-yard IM, beating out all competition with a 3:59.44 first-place finish.

First-year Daniel Choi tapped in second in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.43) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:33.92)

Dragoja picked up another podium finish with his second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.20).

Karol Mlynarczyk was within one second of first place in the 100-yard backstroke, and took second (49.93). Mlynarczyk later finished the 200-yard backstroke in third place (1:51.00).

In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Daniel Nagy missed out on first place by .14 seconds and finished in second (1:49.54)

The men's 200-yard medley relay took third place (1:31.33), thanks to the efforts of Mlynarczyk, Preston Lin, Matic and Gansh Sivaramakrishnan.

Lin finished the 100-yard breaststroke in third place (57.40).

Rodgers finished the 200-yard breaststroke in third place (2:07.51).

GW's 200-yard freestyle 'A' relay closed out the meet in third place (1:23.00), swam by Matic, Mlynarczyk, Dragoja and Sivaramakrishnan.
UP NEXT
The Buff and Blue have a week off from competition before heading to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 4, for a dual meet against Pitt.
