Kataoka Records Seventh Assist in 2-1 Loss at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite falling 2-1 to nearby rival George Mason, sophomore Aoi Kataoka recorded her seventh assist of the year, placing her third in program history for a single season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 53rd Minute: After a scoreless first half, the Patriots struck first off a tap-in goal from Molly Starner. George Mason's initial shot off a corner kick was saved by GW's goalkeeper Grace Crowe. However, the ball rolled free off the save and Starner managed to tap it in and give the Patriots a 1-0 advantage.
- 71st Minute: Later in the half, GW knotted the match at one when Alexa Meinen tallied her second goal of the season. Streaking past George Mason's back line, Meinen received a perfectly-placed pass from Kataoka and beat the goalie one-on-one for the score.
- 80th Minute: Milan Pierre-Jerome delivered the game-winning goal late in the second half on a shot that snuck past the left post despite heavy pressure from the GW defense.
NOTEWORTHY
- George Mason finished with a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
- The Patriots took 10 corner kicks, while GW attempted six.
- Both teams were whistled for 10 fouls. George Mason's Madyson Taylor was the lone player issued a yellow card in the match.
- Crowe tallied seven saves for GW in 90 minutes of action. George Mason split time between two goalkeepers in the match. Selamawit Caldart tallied three saves in the first half, while Ginny Fronk recorded two saves in the second half.
- GW's offense was paced by Meinen who recorded one goal on four shots. Meinen's four shots were all on net.
- Kataoka notched three shots to go along with her assist, while sophomore Isabel Kelly and junior Kelly Poole each recorded one shot on goal.

- George Mason grows its all-time advantage over the Buff & Blue to 24-3-5, including a 6-3-2 mark as conference opponents.
