WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer hits the road for the first time this season when it visits Navy on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: GW suffered its first defeat of the campaign, falling to Mount St. Mary's on Monday, 2-1. First-year Alex Nicholson scored his first career goal in the 68th minute after stealing a ball from the backline. Senior Justin Grady made a season-high four saves in net.
BALANCE OF POWER: The Buff & Blue are averaging 2.25 goals per game, 33rd in the nation, through the season's first four matches and have done so in a variety of ways. Seven different Colonials have scored, led by a pair from both Oscar Haynes Brown and Tom Cooklin. Additionally, seven different student-athletes have notched an assist, led by Nico Krueger and Roee Tenne with two each. Last season, GW had seven goal scorers all year with Haynes Brown the only player providing more than two.
ABOUT THE MIDSHIPMEN: Navy is 1-2-1 on the season following a 2-2 draw with St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday. The Midshipmen's lone victory came in their season opener against Saint Joseph's, 1-0. Navy has scored just three times in its four matches, but two have come from Baba Kiellie, who has also added an assist to account for five of the team's eight points. Kellie is a two-time All-Patriot League performer and scored five times a year ago.
In net, Pierce Holbrook has made 13 stops and holds a 1.00 GAA through four matches.
