#20 Men’s Water Polo Preps for CWPA Crossover Weekend

Buff and Blue to play four games over the weekend
WASHINGTON - GW men's water polo hits the road this weekend, traveling to Erie, PA for a four-game slate at the CWPA Crossover Weekend. GW will go up against Mckendree (9 a.m.) and Mercyhurst (6:20 p.m.) on Saturday, followed by Gannon (9 a.m.) and Salem (1 p.m.) on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT: Men's water polo is coming off a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Princeton Invitational, with wins against Cal Lutheran (12-8), #18 St. Francis Brooklyn (14-13, OT), and Iona (15-9). Theodoros Pateros had an impressive weekend for GW, scoring 15 goals over the three games. Luca Castorina made 40 saves over the weekend, posting a .571 save percentage for the Buff and Blue.
CLIMBING THE POLLS: GW men's water polo is ranked #20 nationally by the CWPA in its Week Three rankings. This comes after receiving a season-high seven points in this week's poll. GW also climbed the ranks in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Week Three poll, moving up one spot into second place, and only one point behind top-ranked Fordham.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: The McKendree Bearcats enter the weekend with a 2-3 record. However, two of the Bearcats losses have been by a one-goal margin. McKendree has already defeated one of GW's upcoming opponents this weekend, Mercyhurst (21-12).
The Mercyhurst Lakers enter the weekend with a 1-6 record, having dropped its last six games. Mercyhurst has been outscored 111-58 in its losing skid. The Lakers' lone win came over Long Island University (13-11).
The Gannon University Golden Knights are 0-4 entering play this weekend. Gannon's only experience in the pool this season came at the Bruno Classic (hosted by Brown University), when it suffered losses to #19 Brown (9-18), #17 Fordham (8-28), #20 St. Francis Brooklyn (12-23), and Air Force (5-20) (rankings as of the time of the game).
The most experienced team GW will face this weekend is the Salem University Tigers, who enter with a 4-4 record. The Buff and Blue have already faced off against Salem this season, turning down the Tigers, 23-6, at the U.S. Naval Academy Open.
