Lauren Prentice scores goal in effort
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Lauren Prentice tallied her second goal of the year, but a pair of unfortunate bounces late in the second half helped give La Salle a 2-1 win on Thursday night in Philadelphia.
The loss was GW's first of the season, and snapped the team's season-long unbeaten streak at eight straight games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
45th Minute: Just 18 seconds into the second half, Prentice buried her second of the season. The goal for the junior forward from Tampa came off an assist from Cammie Dopke.
77th Minute: La Salle got on the board courtesy of an own goal. Sophomore Haley Gschrey threw a ball towards the net that deflected off of a defender and into the goal.
82nd Minute: The Explorers took the lead after a misplaced clearance by the GW defense placed the ball directly on the foot of Gschrey, who tapped it in for the goal.
NOTEWORTHY:
•Elizabeth Cruz and Aoi Kataoka led GW in shots with three apiece.
•Goalkeeper Grace Crowe registered a career-high six saves in the effort.
•Sophomore Alicia Window made her first career start at center back on Thursday night.
•Despite the result, GW led the way in shots, 16-13, and shots on goal, 10-7.
UP NEXT:
The Buff & Blue will return home to The Vern to face A-10 newcomer Loyola Chicago. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
