WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer kicks off another week of A-10 action with a pair of games, starting with a road clash at La Salle on Thursday at 6 p.m. before returning to The Vern to host conference newcomer Loyola Chicago on Sunday at 1 p.m. Action from both games will be available on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT:
GW extended its season-long unbeaten streak to eight games with a 2-2 draw at Fordham. Rachel Sorkenn netted her sixth goal of the season and Abby Mansoor scored her first career goal in the effort.
SECONDARY SCORING:
While Sorkenn has continued to be the focal point of GW's attack through its first eight games, the team has been aided by several secondary scoring sources.
In addition to Sorkenn, the Buff & Blue have five other players with at least one goal, including Mansoor, Margaret Rabbitt, Lauren Prentice and Aoi Kataoka, who have each tallied their first career goal this season.
Currently, George Washington is ranked fourth in the A10 in scoring, averaging just over 1.5 goals per game.
CROWE GET IT:
Following an early-season split in minutes, it looks as though first-year goalkeeper Grace Crowe has taken hold of the job. The Brenham, Texas native has played every minute in net for GW during A-10 play, and currently sports a .667 goals against average, which is third-best in the conference.
In her last game, Crowe faced a career-high 18 shots and registered a career-best four saves against Fordham.
LOOKING AT LA SALLE:
The Explorers enter Thursday's game at 5-4 but are 0-2 to start conference play. La Salle's most recent contest was a 1-0 defeat at Loyola Chicago that saw the Explorers concede the game-winning goal in the 71st minute. Offensively, La Salle is led by junior Kelli McGroarty, who leads the team in goals (3), assists (4) and points (10).
SCOUTING LOYOLA CHICAGO:
Sunday will be the first-ever meeting between GW and Loyola Chicago. The Ramblers (5-2-2, 1-0 A-10) enter this week on a good run of form, having won three of their last four contests. Additionally, Loyola's 1-0 victory over La Salle in its last game was its first A-10 conference victory in any sport. Prior to facing GW, the Ramblers will face off with A-10 preseason favorite Saint Louis on Thursday night.
