The Buff & Blue and Peacocks go head-to-head Saturday at noon
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer will leave the Washington, D.C. area for the first time this season, heading north on I-95 to Jersey City to face off with Saint Peter's University on Saturday. Kickoff between the two sides will get underway at 12 noon from Jaroschak Field.
NATIONALLY RANKED:
Following a third-straight clean sheet against American on Wednesday, GW's defense has put up some of the best numbers in the NCAA. Entering Saturday, the Buff & Blue are ranked 15th in the country in goals against average (.250), and are tied for 15th in the country in shutout percentage (.750).
Meanwhile, GW's offense also appears in the NCAA rankings. Through four games, the Buff & Blue attack is ranked 36th nationally in shot accuray, firing at a .581 percent clip.
CLEAN SHEET STREAK:
Against the Peacocks, George Washington will look to extend its season-high clean sheet streak to four games. Should it accomplish the task, it will become the first GW team since 2015 to record a shutout in four straight games. That year, GW put together two separate streaks of at least four clean sheets, including in a stretch of nine shutouts in 11 games.
A LOOK AT THE PEACOCKS:
Saint Peter's enters Saturday's game with a 1-4 record, but the Peacocks are coming off of their first win of the season in their last contest against Hampton. In that game, first-year Xochilt Turijan scored in the 75th minute to give Saint Peter's the win. Turijan, who is tied for the team lead with one goal, is one of 14 first-years that Saint Peter's has on its roster this season.
