Rachel Sorkenn's first-half brace powers GW's offense
JERSEY CITY, N.J. - George Washington women's soccer put together a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, firing five goals past Saint Peter's while holding the Peacocks' attack to just three total shots in a 5-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
10th Minute: Grad student Rachel Sorkenn started off the scoring for GW when she beat goalkeeper Olivia Mackethan one-on-one inside the penalty area. The goal was Sorkenn's third of the season, and was assisted by Lauren Prentice.
30th Minute: Sorkenn extended GW's lead to two when she came in alone on the left side and beat Mackethan with a right-footed shot. First-year Avril Silva set Sorkenn up with the pass that allowed her to get past the defense.
51st Minute: Junior Margaret Rabbit tallied her first career goal, beating the Saint Peter's backline with a left-footed strike.
62nd Minute: First-year Aoi Kataoka also found the net for her first goal in the Buff & Blue. Kataoka was able to find the back of the net with a left-footed strike after being set up by teammate Kelly Poole.
88th Minute: Grad student Sammy Neyman capped off the scoring with her first goal of the 2022 campaign, beating goalkeeper Annabelle Adam with a right-footed shot.
NOTEWORTHY:
• Goalkeepers Ainsley Lumpe and Grace Crowe combined to hold Saint Peter's scoreless en route to the Buff & Blue's fourth-straight clean sheet.
• GW's four-game shutout streak is the team's longest since 2015.
• The Buff & Blue defense has not surrendered a goal in over 408 minutes of action. Additionally, GW's defense has only given up one goal this year, which came in the 42nd minute of the season opener against UMBC.
• GW's five goals were its most in a game since the team scored seven against Delaware State in March 2021.
• Senior Isabella Buck led the GW offense with four shots.
• Sophomore transfer Maya Goudeseune made her Buff & Blue debut on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, sophomores Sarah Patton and Maggie Mockenhaupt each made their season debuts.
• George Washington led the way in almost every statistical category Saturday, including shots, 19-3, shots on goal, 9-1, and corner opportunities, 4-1.
• GW's 19 shots were its most in a contest since the team had 23 against Davidson last October (10/24).

George Washington will have eight days to recover before heading to Howard University for its last non-conference game before A-10 play begins. Kickoff between the Buff & Blue and Bison is scheduled for next Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
