GW extends season-long unbeaten streak to seven games
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer opened up its A-10 slate on Thursday afternoon, battling George Mason to a 1-1 draw.
Junior Margaret Rabbitt tallied the lone goal, but her strike was enough to extend GW's unbeaten streak to seven straight contests. The Buff & Blue's streak is now the longest to begin a season in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
47th Minute: Following a scoreless first half, it didn't take long for GW to find the back of the net to start the second 45. Rabbitt buried her second goal of the season off of a corner, with the assist coming from the boot of teammate Sammy Neyman.
59th Minute: The Patriots broke through thanks to the left foot of Sophie Davidson, who was able to sneak behind the GW defense and bury her first of the year just 47 seconds after being subbed on. Davidson was set up off of a pass from Mia Casciani.
NOTEWORTHY:
•GW's seven-game unbeaten streak is its longest since the team went 16 straight games without a loss in 2019.
•Following her second goal of the year, Rabbitt now ranks second on the team in goals and points (5).
•Rachel Sorkenn led the Buff & Blue with three shots on Thursday.
•Seven different Buff & Blue players registered at least one shot.
•George Washington held the advantage in almost every statistical category, including shots, 12-8, shots on goal, 10-3, and corner opportunities, 7-2.
UP NEXT:
GW will travel to Fordham for a Sunday afternoon A-10 battle. Kickoff between the Buff & Blue and the Rams is slated for 1 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
