The Buff & Blue get A-10 play started with two games this week
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer will dive head first into Atlantic 10 play this week when it takes on a pair of conference opponents. The Buff & Blue will begin their A-10 slate by hosting George Mason on Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by a road trip to New York City to face off with Fordham on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests can be seen live on ESPN+.
RACHEL IS ROLLIN':
Despite missing almost two years with an injury, Rachel Sorkenn hasn't missed a beat in her return to action. The grad student has gotten off to a hot start, leading the Buff & Blue in both goals (5) and points (11), while also ranking second in the A-10 in goals and fourth in points.
Additionally, Sorkenn has made her mark nationally through six games, ranking 17th in the NCAA in goals per game (.83) and 26th nationally in points per game (1.83).
HISTORICAL UNBEATEN STREAK:
When GW welcomes George Mason to GW Soccer Field on Thursday, it will look to extend its season-long unbeaten streak to seven games. Should George Washington keep the streak alive, it will become the first team in program history to go unbeaten in its first seven contests.
Currently, the Buff & Blue's six-game unbeaten streak to start the year is its longest since 2016, and it is its longest unbeaten streak of any kind since the program went 16 straight games without a loss in 2019.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON:
The Patriots enter A-10 play with a 1-5-2 record, but have lost four in a row. Their most recent contest was a 4-1 loss at Princeton that saw George Mason knot the game at one before conceding three unanswered goals. The Patriots' main offensive threat is grad student Sarah DeWitt, who is currently first on the team in goals (2) and points (4).
ABOUT THE RAMS:
Similar to George Mason, Fordham enters this week of action under .500 (1-6-0) and finds themselves on a multiple-game skid. The Rams, who have lost five straight, were shutout 4-0 by Columbia in their last contest and only have one goal in their last five games. Individually, Fordham has four different players with at least one goal, while senior Caitlin Kennedy leads Fordham with 17 shots.
