Two sides scheduled to meet Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
WASHINGTON - Fresh off its first win of the Fall campaign, George Washington women's soccer will look to make it two in a row when they welcome the Towson Tigers to GW Soccer Field on Thursday. Kickoff between the two sides is slated for 4:30 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
STRONG START FOR SORKENN:
After missing all of the 2021 season due to injury, graduate student Rachel Sorkenn is back on the pitch and has returned to her goal-scoring form. The River Edge, N.J., native has found the back of the net in back-to-back games for GW, including scoring the game-winning goal in GW's win over William & Mary on Sunday.
Should Sorkenn score on Thursday against Towson, she would be the first Buff & Blue player since Alexis Williams in 2018 to open a season with a goal in three straight games.
EARLY DEFENSIVE SUCCESS:
On Thursday, GW's defense will aim to continue its strong start to the campaign. Through the first two matches, GW has allowed just one goal to the opposition and has limited attackers to just four total shots on net. GW's one goal against through two games is its lowest total to start the season since 2018.
SCOUTING TOWSON:
The Tigers will arrive in Washington D.C., on Thursday with a 1-1-0 record following a season-opening win at Howard and 3-1 loss to La Salle. Towson is led by junior forward Nia Christopher, who was named CAA Preseason Player of the Year. Last season, Christopher finished second in the CAA in goals, including five game-winners. In addition to Christopher, the GW defense will have to keep tabs on junior midfielder Phoebe Canoles, who was named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference team.
