Sorkenn scores second goal of the year to give GW the victory
WASHINGTON - George Washington women's soccer scored early in the first half and didn't need anything else on its way to a 1-0 home victory over William & Mary on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Rachel Sorkenn pocketed her second goal of the season and first-year Grace Crowe recorded her first career clean sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• 18th minute: The Buff & Blue scored the games only goal courtesy of a right footed tap-in by Rachel Sorkenn. Sorkenn's goal was her second in as many games, and was set up off a cross from teammate Lauren Prentice.
NOTEWORTHY:
• Dating back to 2019, Sorkenn has now scored a goal in each of her last five games played.
• Crowe made three saves, and faced six total shots, en route to the shutout.
• GW's last shutout came against Saint Joseph's, 2-0, last October 17th.
• Prentice's assist was her first since March 4, 2021.
• Isabel Kelly made her Buff & Blue debut on Sunday afternoon.
• George Washington held the advantage over William & Mary in both shots, 8-6, and corner kicks, 6-3. The two teams finished even with three shots on target.
UP NEXT:
GW will host its last home contest until Sept. 15 when they welcome in Towson Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at The Vern.
