3/2/2022 6:40:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Colonials and Explorers tip off at 1:30 p.m. from Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del.- Fresh off an opening-round victory against St. Bonaventure, GW women's basketball returns to action Thursday afternoon when it faces No. 5 seed La Salle in the second round of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship. Tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+ from the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington.
FAMILIAR FOES:
When GW meets La Salle Thursday afternoon, it will be the second meeting between the two sides in less than a week. The Colonials and Explorers ended the regular season facing off at the Smith Center in a contest that ended in a victory for the road team, 62-55.
In the contest, the Buff & Blue was done in by a poor first-quarter performance that saw the team turn the ball over 11 times, allowing La Salle to go up 16-7 after the first 10 minutes. While GW went on to outscore La Salle the rest of the afternoon, the early mistakes did the team in and allowed La Salle to leave Foggy Bottom with the W.
HIGH FIVE:
Following a 54-49 comeback victory in the opening round of the A-10 Championship, head coach Caroline McCombs has now won five straight conference tournament games dating back to 2019. McCombs, who won her last four tournament games with Stony Brook before getting her first postseason win with the Buff & Blue, has a career 8-5 record in conference tournaments.
CLUTCH WHEN IT MATTERS:
Against the Bonnies, graduate guard Kyara Frames poured in her best scoring performance of the season. The Laurel, Md., native dropped a season-high 17 points, including two threes in the final 90 seconds to help the Colonials complete a fourth-quarter comeback.
Frames' 17 points were her most in a game since Dec. 21 against Lehigh, while her six made field goals were her most in a contest this year.
