Sophomore swimmer competed in 100 & 200 back
ATHENS, Ga. - GW swimmer Durde Matic broke his own Atlantic 10 record in the 100 fly twice on Saturday at Georgia's Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet, recording a time of 45.52 seconds in the finals to further improve his positioning in the NCAA rankings.
Matic was among a trio of Buff and Blue swimmers who took part in the meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium, aiming to build off strong performances at last week's A-10 Championships. The junior from Belgrade, Serbia, went 45.64 during the morning session before coming back in the evening with an even faster time that shaved .20 seconds off his personal-best entering the day. He remains ranked among the top 25 in the nation in the event, entering the final week before the NCAA qualifying deadline.
Fresh off being named Most Outstanding Performer at the A-10 meet, Marek Osina swam both the 100 back (:47.06) and 200 back (1:43.60) at the two-day Last Chance Meet, while Marlee Rickert was in action in both the 100 back (:54.60) and 200 back (1:58.16), as well.
Next, GW will have divers Jamie Doak and Spencer Bystrom in action at the NCAA Zone A Championships on March 7-9 at Navy's Lejeune Hall, looking to qualify for the NCAA meets. The NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held March 16-19 at McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, while the men's national meet runs from March 23-26 in the same pool.
