Buff & Blue claimed a pair of silvers on Wednesday
GENEVA, Ohio - GW women's swimming and diving leads the field after the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Championships thanks to a pair of silver-medal relay performances and a strong effort from the divers.
With three days to go at the SPIRE Institute, the Buff and Blue have totaled 104 points thus far to outpace Davidson (79), Richmond (78) and Duquesne (77).
GW started the meet with a silver-medal winning swim in the 200-yard medley relay. Marlee Rickert, Stine Omdahl Petersen, Barbara Schaal and Becca Brown combined to win their heat in 1:40.41, just off the winning pace of Richmond.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Julia Knox, Carly Perri, Molly Smyers and Erin McCarthy battled Duquesne to the finish before landing silver in 7:15.95, which was half a second off the program record.
The divers made their mark with all three of the Buff and Blue scorers placing among the top nine on the 1-meter board to add 36 points to the team total.
Jamie Doak posted the top qualifying score in afternoon prelims (265.15) before placing fourth. Dara Reyblat joined her in the championship final on the strength of a 231.70 in prelims on the way to a seventh-place finish, and Caitlin Inall won the B final with a score of 246.30.
UP NEXT: The meet continues Thursday with a full day of competition. Preliminary racing begins at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
