Topolewski takes bronze in the mile
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Led by Ava Topolewski's third-place finish in the mile, GW swimming and diving closed out its fall slate on Saturday with three first-years competing at Speedo Junior Nationals.
Topolewski, who has had recent success swimming the mile for the Buff and Blue, captured third (16:33.18) and was just short of her collegiate personal best (16:32.64) in the 1650-yard freestyle, while also setting a new top time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.73).
Phoebe Wright's top finish was 24th (1:59.68) in the 200-yard backstroke, while Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan's best finish was 30th (49.24) in the 100-yard backstroke.
The talented trio of rookies made an immediate impact this fall and have already stamped their names all over the Buff and Blue record book. In total, the three appear in the program's top-ten record book 11 times (Sivaramakrishnan 3, Wright 4, Topolewski 4), and Wright was also a part of the record-tying, 400-yard medley relay team at last weekend's Big Al Invitational.
