The Buff & Blue will play three games in three days beginning Friday at 4:30 p.m. EST
WASHINGTON – George Washington women's basketball will spend Thanksgiving weekend out west when it travels to Las Vegas to compete in the 2022 UNLV Thanksgiving Tournament. GW will tip-off its three-game stay in Vegas on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. EST matchup against East Tennessee State University.
A LOOK AT THE THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT FIELD:
The competition, which is hosted by defending Mountain West champion UNLV (4-0), tips off on Friday and features eight of the nation's top mid-major women's basketball programs. GW will play three games over three days with the championship game scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. EST.
Competing alongside the Buff & Blue and the Rebels will be ETSU (4-1), Illinois State (3-0), UAlbany (3-1), Louisiana Tech (3-0), UC San Diego (1-2) and Stetson (3-1). UNLV and UAlbany will start off the tournament's action with a 2 p.m. EST tip-off from the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday.
SCOUTING ETSU:
GW's first opponent, ETSU, will enter Friday's matchup at 4-1 and winners of four-straight games. The Buccaneers' only loss this season was an understandable one, coming at the hands of the #1 team in the country, South Carolina, 101-31.
Graduate student Jiselle Thomas leads the ETSU attack, averaging 18 points per game, while fellow grad student Jayla Ruffus-Milner takes cares of business on the boards, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.
DOUBLE DIGIT DELIGHT:
Out in Las Vegas, Mia Lakstigala will look to continue her hot-scoring start. Entering this weekend's action, Lakstigala leads all GW scorers in points per game (14.6) and has scored in double figures in every contest this year. Lakstigala is the first Colonial to start a season with five consecutive double-digit games since Kelli Prange did it to start the 2017-18 season.
