Mia Lakstigala leads all GW scorers with 18 points
WASHINGTON – Despite a 26-point fourth quarter, George Washington women's basketball was unable to complete its comeback bid, falling to Cal State Fullerton 70-64 on Sunday.
From the opening tip, the Titans' offense was relentless. Cal State Fullerton buried nine of its first 13 shots to pull ahead 23-13, and the Titans would carry that impeccable shooting form with them throughout the first half, firing at a 57 percent clip.
Despite the opposition's lights out shooting, GDUB managed to hang around and only faced a 37-30 deficit at halftime. Unfortunately, in the third quarter, the rims were not kind to the Buff & Blue. GW failed to hit a field goal in the third, and while the team managed eight points on free throws, the Titans extended their lead to more than 20 points.
Finally in the fourth quarter and staring a 22-point deficit in the face, George Washington slowly chipped away. Starting with a Mia Lakstigala layup, the Colonials' offense would ride a 26-7 run to whittle the deficit to single digits. However, the sheer size of the Cal State Fullerton's lead forced GW to foul late, and the Titans iced the game with their free throws to finish off the win.
Offensively, Lakstigala led GW with 18 points. The graduate student has now scored in double figures every game this year. Additionally, both Mayowa Taiwo and Nya Robertson scored 10 points on Sunday.
