First-year swimmer recognized following a pair of victories on Saturday
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - First-year swimmer Ava Topolewski has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. Topolewski impressed in her first time swimming in front of her home fans, topping the competition in the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyles.
The Grand Prairie, Texas, native finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in just 10:13.44, almost a full 30 seconds faster than the next opposing swimmer. Topolewski won the 500-yard freestyle by a gap of over five seconds, while also placing fourth and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle relay, respectively.
GW is off this week before heading to Annapolis for a meet against Navy on October 21 and 22.
