
Men's Water Polo Blows Past Mount St. Mary's

Buff & Blue cruised in home pool
WASHINGTON - Making its return to Smith Center Pool, GW men's water polo cruised to a 20-13 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
Andras Levai posted six goals and three assists to lead the Buff and Blue, who earned their second Mid-Atlantic Water Polo play victory in less than 24 hours following a Friday night triumph at Johns Hopkins.
After ceding the first goal of the game Saturday, GW ran off five straight to assert control, pushing its lead to 5-1 on Andrija Sekulic's goal with 2:03 left in the opening quarter.
Mount St. Mary's used a strong second period to edge within 9-6 at halftime, but the Buff and Blue came out of the intermission with four straight goals to pull away from the Mountaineers in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
In total, GW outscored the visitors 6-1 in the period. Logan Kalish's goal with 32 seconds left in the third quarter extended the advantage to 15-7.
Levai led a season-best offensive attack that featured 10 scorers to the delight of the home crowd. Antonin Kralj notched four goals, and Bruno Rebessi and Nick Schroeder also recorded multi-goal efforts.
Luca Castorina made 11 saves in the GW net before giving way to Nolan Bannerton, who made three stops in a quarter of play in his collegiate debut.
UP NEXT:Â GW closes a busy opening weekend of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play on Sunday with a road trip to Bucknell. The Buff and Blue will face off with the Bison at 1 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
